Tallgrass Prairie Wildflowers

A wonderful book, highlighted by more than 300 of Frank Oberle's spectacular photographs. The text opens with a brief description of the Tallgrass Prairie region and proceeds to a discussion of wildflower anatomy and terminology. It then jumps right into nearly 300 species accounts arranged by flower color. Each species and its habitat is described. Additional comments (on medicinal uses, ecological aspects, etc.) are provided where especially interesting. The volume closes with a directory of prairie preserves open to the public. An outstanding reference that enjoys a place on my short shelf of nature references. M. Habeck
