Green Dragon
Arisaema dracontium
Green Dragon grows up to three feet tall. It is closely related to the Jack-in-the-Pulpit and is a member of the same genus. It has a single compound leaf with up to 15 leaflets or segments. The flowers are inside the fleshy part of the structure shown in the second photo at left; the yellow spike-like structure that protrudes from it is sterile. Small beetles and other insects make their way underneath the sheath, to inspect the unpleasant smelling flowers, pollinating them in the process.
