Northern Dusky Salamander
Desmognathus fuscus

"The Northern Dusky Salamander is abundant but elusive. Surprising quick and agile, the Dusky will leap to avoid capture. This is the only picture I was able to take before this specimen jumped to the forest floor and disappeared.

"There are many subspecies of Dusky; the largest grow to about 5 and a half inches. Colors vary but most are indistinct shades of brown to gray. Their eyes are prominent and the jaw has a shovelnose appearance. Duskies are cold tolerant and can be found as far north as Quebec and New Brunswick, Canada." - Richard Milton
