Species counts for North American mushrooms vary. Most estimates place the number at more than ten thousand.
Mushroom identification is challenging (for me, at least). If you eat mushrooms, misidentification can have serious, even deadly, consequences.
Don't rely on photographs - especially on this website - to decide whether a mushroom is edible.
I have plenty of mushroom images, but have only posted a very few photos, those of individuals whose identities I could at least hazard at guess at.
