      Flora: Pink Lady's-slipper

Pink Lady's-slipper
Cypripedium acaule

Pink Lady's-slipper photo This wildflower requires the presence of an underground fungus to live; as a result, many transplant efforts fail and people who thoughtlessly collect these plants from the wild end up killing them, thus contributing to their increasing rareness. Photographed in Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Photo © 1997 by Resa Ramsey. Used by permission.
