      Flora: Dutchman's Breeches

Dutchman's Breeches
Dicentra cucullaria

Dutchman's Breeches photo

Dutchman's Breeches is a member of the Poppy family, found in moist woodlands. Multiple flowers hang from a single stalk that rises above highly divided feathery (and poisonous) foliage. As with many spring wildflowers, the foliage emerges earlier and lasts much longer than the blossoms. See also Squirrel Corn, a similar flower in the same genus that is sometimes found in association with Dutchman's Breeches.
