Fauna: Barred Owl Barred Owl Strix varia Resident mostly east of the Missouri River, with populations in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and eastern Texas. Inhabits wooded areas, preferably with large trees. Food includes a wide variety of prey; small mammals and birds apparently make up the bulk of the diet. Photo by Lillian Liles.
