Trillium nivale

Snow Trillium is a early spring wildflower, sometimes emerging through snow. It isn't particularly common here in central Indiana, but where it occurs it typically blooms in mid to late March. These individuals were observed at Turkey Run State Park in west-central Indiana on 21 March 2009.

The plants are usually pretty short, only three or four inches tall. This characteristic is likely why they are also called Dwarf White Trillium.
